ABOUT

Vila da Fortaleza do Norte is the most isolated village on Ilha do Mel, with about 50 inhabitants. It lies at the foot of Morro da Baleia (80m) and the imposing Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres (1767). Praia da Fortaleza — with 4 km of coastline — is the largest and most deserted beach on the island, ideal for those seeking total isolation. There is no restaurant or commerce infrastructure — you must bring everything. Access is by trail (40 min from Nova Brasília), boat (10 min), or bike (15 min). The atmosphere is one of pure nature and history.
