ABOUT

Morro da Baleia (80m altitude) is the site where Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres stands, built in 1767 to protect Baía de Paranaguá. From the top, you can see Ilha das Palmas and Ilha das Peças to the north, as well as the entire stretch of Praia da Fortaleza (4 km). The name comes from the shape of the hill, which resembles the profile of a beached whale — a fact that gave rise to the island's former name: "Ilha da Baleia." Access is via a flat trail from Nova Brasília.
