Where to Eat on Ilha do Mel

The cuisine of Ilha do Mel is as authentic as its landscapes. With no fast-food chains and few restaurants, each meal is an experience: fresh seafood, family recipes passed down through generations, and service that can only be found in small establishments.

In this guide, we list our partner restaurants and tips that only locals know.

Partner Restaurants

End of the Trail (Enchanted)

The most famous restaurant on the island. Located at the end of the main trail in Encantadas, it has a privileged view of the sea.

  • Specialty: Grilled fish, shrimp moqueca

  • Atmosphere: Rustic, beachfront

  • Price: R$ 50-90 per person

  • Tip: Make a reservation via WhatsApp. Full? There's no waiting list.

Beehouse (Nova Brasília)

A café and restaurant with a more contemporary approach. Great for breakfast and light lunches.

  • Specialty: bowls, artisanal sandwiches, specialty coffees

  • Atmosphere: modern, Wi-Fi available

  • Price: R$ 30-60 per person

  • Tip: the afternoon tea on weekends is a must-try

Tips from Residents

Bring cash!

There are no ATMs on the island. Most restaurants accept PIX (Brazil's instant payment system), but the internet signal is unstable. Cash is king.

Fish of the Day

Always ask "what's the fish of the day?". Restaurants buy from local fishermen in the morning — the menu changes depending on the sea conditions.

Opening hours

The island doesn't have the rhythm of a city. Many restaurants close early (9 pm) and aren't open every day. Confirm the hours before you go.

Kitchen at the guesthouse

If your guesthouse has a shared kitchen, take advantage of it:

  • Buy fresh fish at the Nova Brasília market

  • Basic supplies at the island's small markets (but more expensive than on the mainland)

  • Have a barbecue on the beach (if allowed by the guesthouse)

What to try

| Dish | Where to find it | Average price |

| ---------------------------------- | ----------------------- | ----------- |

| Grilled fish with potatoes and salad | Any restaurant | R$ 45-70 |

| Shrimp moqueca | Fim da Trilha | R$ 80-100 |

| Sururu broth | Encantadas kiosks | R$ 25-35 |

| Homemade colonial coffee | Beehouse | R$ 35-50 |

| Lime caipirinha | All bars | R$ 15-25 |

Dietary restrictions

  • Vegetarians: There are options, but the menu is limited. Check beforehand.

  • Vegans: More difficult. I recommend cooking at the inn.

  • Gluten intolerance: Most dishes are naturally gluten-free (rice, fish, salad).
